Western Digital Elements 1TB USB 2.0 External Desktop Hard Drive

Failed in under a week from purchase - Having bought an WD Elements 1TB before and had no problems with it, I thought I might as well get another one, to dump all my files from a smaller (500gb) drive which I was then going to pass on to a relative. Unfortunately, within five days of taking the new drive out of the box, it began making a clicking noise and is not recognised by my PC. I know I should have backed it all up onto yet another drive, but I m now having to face up to the fact that I ve lost 8 years worth of files, some of them completely irreplaceable. I still can t get over the fact that I haven t even had it for a full week, and it s already failed, and lost all my data. Terrible. I ll definately think twice before purchasing any more Western Digital products in future.

best external and internal ive ever had - although SSD drives are slowly becoming the new in thing they cannot yet hold as much as a regular hard drive and if they could they would be much more expensive i use my hard drive to store both work and home documents so all my music movies photos ect on it and it just seems to cope with it all its a nice size hard drive looks pretty as well :P yea thats always a factor i used it for an external for about 2 months and it worked great then i decide to put it in my mac pro and it worked just fine in fact it worked better then the main hard drive so yes this is a great value for money and i will soon need to buy about 4 more so :P

Worth the $ for the current technology on the market - Bought this 1TB HD after looking around for a good bargain. At $78 or so, it s a great buy for a 1 TB (for now at least). I waited about a month before writing this review to ensure it proves its mettle. The drive is much more silent then my rather noisy Verbatim external HD. Goes to sleep mode when not in use after 15-20 mins or so and saves power. Like the other reviewers, I reformatted this to NTFS overnight and a bit of the day - takes approx 14hours+ to reformat. I am glad I did as burning images of a DVD can easily be >4GB (not possible on FAT32). Will recommend this as a buy until the price and tech of solid state memory becomes user friendly in large volumes! Happy shopping!

Excelent product and fantastic delivery - Ordered Thursday night arrived Saturday morning. Now thats what you call service. The Disk seems really quiet, attached it to a NSLU2 device and reformated in EXT3 format.. I now have a large network attached storage device to which I can store anything from my wireless network.I can access it from Vista and XP machines and copy data to it.This means I can also leave the disk online without eating power. If you ve thought about NAS then this may be the way to do it.Linksys by Cisco NSLU2 Network Storage Link for USB 2.0 Disk Drives

Very pleased - Delivered promptly, this drive is physically bigger than I imagined, being about 4 times the size of the other external (160GB) WD drive I have. My fault as I didn t take any notice of the products dimensions. The other difference is that it has its own power supply, so if power sockets are limited bear this in mind. I would not recommend this drive if you wish to take it around with you on a regular basis due to the size and weight. The drive itself is quiet and has a blue light indicating power is on. There is no on/off switch, but this is not a problem. The huge amount of storage space should last (me) until old age.Over all I m very pleased with this drive, which I found easy to install (plug & play) and easy to use. I ve only used it with my Windows Vista laptop PC, not on my Windows XP desktop, so cannot comment on the performance with XP.Very good valuefor money.
