Western Digital My Book Essential 500GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive

£55.00

be careful - guys be careful with WD. I dont own this drive but another of 500gb. It worked fine for 12 months. Last week I got scared when I noticed that the disk has stopped working. Today I tried to test my luck again and found that it is alive but making some scary sound. So in short I am rushing this weekend to a nearest store to buy another HD and backup all my data.I read some reviewer experienced the same thing. couldnt wait to share my experience.

Western Digital My Book Essential 500GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive - Good product. Had no problems with it in the 9 months I been using it. The only bad piont I ve noticed is that it makes a very short buzzing sound very occasionally.

Avoid this product at all cost... Yours! - I received a Western Digital external 1TB for Xmas. The very first time I tried backing up my computer, the cat bumped the cord and now it s DEAD. I can t see the WD with the utilities I have on my computer, so I m on the hunt for recovery software.A waste of money and a waste of time. I m just glad I haven t been depending on it for months. As soon as I get my stuff off, I m taking it back for a refund!Ho ho ho... yeah, right... thank you so much, Western Digital.

Good product, nasty surprise. - This overall is a useful product but bear in mind it comes with bundled software that installs itself to your boot drive without notification.

Purchase this hard drive at the risk of your data! - This hard drive worked perfectly well for a good 12 months and then ceased to work for no apparent reason. I have since discovered that the chassis is working fine but the actual drive itself is defective. This means that a computer is able to detect the USB interface, but nothing more. I can not access the hard drive and it is now useless to me and I have lost all of my data.I checked my warranty and I am entitled to a replacement, for which I have to pay the postage fees, but I am not entitled to data recovery. On the Western Digital website there is a list of data recovery specialists which if used will not void the warranty. I called the nearest UK company and was informed that they encounter 3 - 4 cases of exactly this type PER WEEK and that the standard price for data recovery is £334.00!!THIS PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE! Western digital have no obligations to pay for data recovery and I have been advised that attempting to get any compromise from Western Digital will be a waste of time and phone bills.I implore you to think very carefully and research before you buy this product. I will no longer be purchasing from Western Digital, this defective product has meant the permanent loss of much sentimental data.
